The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) has appointed Ryan O’Connor, MBA, as its interim president and CEO.

The role has been vacant since the March 26 death of Donald Fisher, PhD, from cancer. Fisher had served as head of the organization since 1980, when it was known as the AGPA.

O’Connor had worked underneath Fisher since 1996 as the AMGA vice president of membership and marketing. The organization said under O’Connor’s leadership, membership has grown every year since 2000.

“I am pleased to accept the role of Interim President and CEO and to support AMGA as it continues to advancing high performance health,” O’Connor said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the board and our dedicated and experienced team to continue to deliver on our promise of empowering the delivery of coordinated, patient-centered, high-quality, value-driven healthcare.”

AMGA said the search for a permanent replacement in the president and CEO role is “currently underway.”
